L4D - Search Key Does Not Work

Post by Matarsak » Sun Dec 14, 2008 9:07 am

What the title says. I've set the search key on the server, and my game client, but it can't find the server. The server does not appear in the browser list, either, and no one appears to be connecting.

I can direct connect, add it to favorites, and have connected it to a Steam group. But it needs to be join-able from a lobby.

Further testing has made it apparent that the search key works only if the lobby and server are on the same map, in the same mode. I'm going to try a few things suggested by support and see if it helps.

I use the search key for my server and it seems to work regardless of map/difficulty..

Hey Matarsak I could never get the search key to work either but I found a post made by Sryso on the Steam forums that does work for me in the way the search key would.

1. Create a lobby
2. Bring up the console
3. sv_cheats 1
4. ms_force_dedicated_server <IP:Port>

I use it all the time to launch a game into my server from a lobby. Only thing is make sure no one is in the server before launching the game otherwise it wont work. As far as the server needed to be on the same map I have not noticed this to be true using this method.

Hope this helps. :P

It seems to work now--though if it doesn't, I'll be sure to try that, Thread.
